Number One in Split Rail Fence

Serving DELAWARE and surrounding areas

Take that first step to your brand new fence. Please choose from the following fencing options:

Split Rail Fence

In the East Coast area, there’s no doubt that the number one choice for fencing is the traditional split rail fence.

We, at the Split Rail Store, are one of the leading dealers of split rail in the East Coast. Our large inventory allows us to offer competitive prices. Not only that, we back up our high-quality products with customer service that is nothing short of excellent. Our friendly and expert staff always makes sure that our customers are 100% happy about our work.

If you would like to install traditional split fencing for your yard, you can choose between the pressure treated or natural rails. The standard rail size is 11 feet for a 10 feet 4 inches post spacing.

If you prefer the economical rail size, which is 8 feet 6 inches for an 8 feet post spacing, we also offer this. We’re one of the very few that do so in our area so if you’re interested, let us know.

Slip Board

A slip board fence is constructed the way you would a traditional fence. Only that, instead of rails, it uses milled boards that measure 1 inch X 6 inches x 10 feet.

Like a split rail, the boards are slipped into the posts. Or, you can also nail them on the posts to recreate board fences that are popular in high-end horse farms in Kentucky.

Western Red Cedar

This type of fence is widely used in Western states. However, it’s rare in the Mid-Atlantic region as western red cedar isn’t found here. But if you want this for your fence, we’ve got you covered. We’re one of the few western red cedar split rail dealers in our area, and we source our cedar split rails from Idaho.

Cedar split rails do not overlap like the others, so rails are 10 feet long with a post spacing of exactly 10 feet as well. This fencing option might work best for you if you’re looking for something that is timeless and practical but at the same time, unique.

White Round Cedar

Our round cedar split rail is made of white cedar, which we source all the way from Canada. Compared to the traditional split rail, this fencing option carries a less rugged and more polished look. It’s available in 10 feet rails for a post spacing of 9 feet 6 inches to 9 feet 8 inches, considering the overlap.

Our round rails are characterized by their flat tapered paddled ends. They also fit together like a traditional split rail. This choice may suit you if you love the classic look of a traditional split rail fencing but would prefer something that isn’t as common in our area.

Over time, you’ll see your cedar split rail change its color into silver or grey. It may also develop cracks. Not to worry, though, as this is normal and will not affect the lifespan of your fence.

Vinyl Ranch Rail

As opposed to the traditional split rail fencing, the vinyl ranch rail carries a formal, refined look. It has the same purpose as a wood fence except that its glossy white look persists for many years.

Snake Rail

The snake rail fence is also referred to as a zigzag fence. It is considered the “original” rail fence for it has been around since the colonial era. It’s still visible today, though, in historic sites, such as Gettysburg and Valley Forge Historic Parks.

Here at Split Rail Store, our snake rail fence is split and not saw cut for a truly rustic look. It’s also pressure treated to increase its life expectancy rate. This fencing option is not tapered and comes in 11 feet rails.

To find out how many rails you need, figure 7 feet per section to allow for the angle and overlap. Heights are as follows:

  • Approximately 3 feet high, use 5 rails per section
  • Approximately 3 ½ feet high, use 6 rails per section
  • Approximately 4 feet high (historic height), use 7 rails per section
  • Add 2 additional rails per section if you want full-size cross braces.

You can do the installation yourself. You no longer have to dig holes. You also won’t need special tools. All you need to do is stack following a 7 linear feet per section measurement. To ensure longevity, stack on a flat stone at every joining point.

New Concrete Posts and Farm Posts

We offer high quality concrete posts for split rail fences. These are 3 hole posts weighing 150-180 lbs. each and are 6.5 feet long, with 15 inches on center hole spacing with a 2 inch top.

If you need posts for agricultural purposes, you might want to check out our round farm posts. They’re used with high tensile wire and you may opt between electrified or not. You can also attach a barbed wire or heavy-duty wire mesh to them.

This type of fencing is ideal for keeping livestock in and setting boundaries for rural properties.

If you need taller posts, we can also attach wire mesh to them to keep deer and other unwanted animals out.

Available in:

  • 3-4 inches D x 8 feet L, pressure treated pine
  • 4-5 inches D x 8 feet L, pressure treated pine
  • 5-6 inches D x 8 feet L, pressure treated pine
  • 4-5 inches D x 10 feet L, pressure treated pine
  • 6-7 inches D x 10 feet L, pressure treated pine

Welded Wire

If you’re thinking about your dogs and other pets, you might want to consider a PVC welded wire for your fence. This isn’t only ideal for containing small animals, it also helps deter pests. Not only that, but this type of fence is also long-lasting, visually-pleasing, and easy to install.

You may choose to attach it to a split rail or board fence.

You may also choose staples or U-nails for it, or simply install it directly with steel posts.

Here’s a quick rundown of our prices:

  • 4 feet x 100 feet 14 gauge (2 inches x 4 inches grid) PVC Coated Welded Wire Green - $180
  • 4 feet x 100 feet 14 gauge (2 inches x 4 inches grid) PVC Coated Welded Wire Black - $180
  • Pool Code 4 feet x 100 feet (1.5 inches x 4 inches grid) Black or Green- $205
